Workshops and studio visits

While the Surrey Open Studios have been running at St George’s we have had lots of visitors both to the exhibition and to particular events. On Thursday 18 June the after school art group from Hinchley Wood Primary School visited Louise to find out about her project and visit the studios at St George’s. While there they listened to Louise explain how her loom works and tried out spinning yarn from wool and doing some drawing. The next day Louise ran some adult workshops where participants experimented with weaving on a table loom and a card loom; working from observational drawings and colour studies they had made earlier looking at the colours and shapes of the stone and flint of the outside walls. Each had made their contribution to a collaborative piece which will grow over the period of Louise’s residency. We hope to gain contributions from as many of the visitors to the studio as would like to join in. The work will be shown in the final exhibition at the end of the residency.
